My 2026 New Years Resolutions

New Year's resolutions get mixed reviews. Some people use the new year as an opportunity to commit to new positive life changes and others scoff. I personally like resolutions headed into the new year.

Over time, I've found the success with new years resolutions by setting a goal that is a clear pass/fail criteria. That helps me measure whether or not I'm on track. For example, in 2024 my two goals were to:

  1. Run a half marathon
  2. Track what I eat every day

These two goals felt clear to me and I was able to build system that gave me a consistent feeling of progress.

For the first, I was able to complete it in April (and even ran a second half later in the year). Of course because of this goal I was forced to get into running, and I've grown to really enjoy. As I trained, I liked to see myself running further than I ever have before, and to eventually do it like it was no big deal.

I made the goal of tracking what I ate because what I really wanted to do was lose weight. I figured that forcing myself to track everything I ate, regardless of if was a good day or a bad day, would encourage behaviors to lose some lbs. And it worked well for me.

So, my 2026 goals are:

  1. Run a marathon
  2. Track what I eat every day
  3. Publish/post some piece of writing once a week
  4. Launch a product

The first two are just a continuation of last year. Publishing writing is essentially why I am writing this right now. I feel like forcing myself to organize my thoughts and writing them down is good for my mind and development.

The last goal is to get the feeling of putting something out there. Along with some friends, I put out an audio-based social media platform called Audicy around 2016/2017. But now I am going to do something totally solo, aided heavily by AI. Even if it sucks, I just want to ship something solo.

Wish me luck in 2026!
